Nicole Barlik, Views Editor March 24, Students get dressed up for the night of their lives. Limos and tuxes are being rented. Many have discussed that this is completely unfair and wrong. However, there are also some students who believe that underclassmen have a right to come to prom. Prom has been around the 19th century, so for many upperclassmen this is an important tradition. We already go to Homecoming and Black and White with them; they should have something special. On the other hand, many students debate that underclassmen should be allowed to come as long as they are invited or have a relationship with an upperclassmen. For example, freshmen date juniors, sophomore date juniors, and so on.

You seem to be browsing on a screen size, browser, or device that this website cannot support. Some things might look and act a little weird. For me and my friends, class year was an indicator of maturity, academic ability and social value. Your grade was a defining characteristic of your identity in high school, and as such, it was easy to tell by looks and personality what grade you were in.
It was refreshing to break free of high school grade constraints when I come to Bowdoin last year. For me, it was genuinely hard to determine what year someone was—looks or academic ability did not always equate to class year. There was a relative sense of equality between me and my upperclassman peers, which gave me the confidence to engage with them in meaningful ways. In fact, there are ways that class years have limited my friendships and relationships at Bowdoin—especially when it comes to hookups and dating.
15 Signs You’re a High School Freshman
But you will be the only person alive who has sole custody of your life. Your particular life. Your entire life. Not just your life at a desk, or your life on a bus, or in a car, or at the computer.
Your first day of high school can be super cool Don’t worry, for pretty much everyone it’s a combo of both. So if you do any of these things, just know that you’re not alone. You can’t get your locker to open. You tried writing the instructions and combination on your hand, but it got smeared after gym class, and now you don’t know if that’s a two or a three.
Not that you have any idea how to open your locker anyway. Who can keep up with “turn it backwards twice then forward once, then go past zero”—too much! You actually bring all of your books to class. Even if you could open your locker, you have no idea where your next class is let alone how to get back to your locker during the couple of minutes between classes, so you break your back carrying around five huge textbooks.
With that overstuffed backpack, you might as well have freshman written across your back. You and your friends innocently sit down at a random empty table in the cafeteria. You don’t realize that there’s been an unspoken seating chart in place for years—and that table is for seniors only. Your parents drop you off every day for the first week. Not because you want them to, but because they insist.

High school has a very large range of relationships. For example, freshmen date juniors, sophomore date juniors, and so on. This can be a little.
While it may be common to see students date students that are one year younger or older, students that date other students with a two, three, or higher year age difference is rarely seen in the school. However, many people accredit the lack of people dating significantly younger or older people to be a maturity problem. As students go through puberty, some mature slower than others and this sets the grades apart, and many upperclassmen cannot bear to deal with an immature significant other.
However, underclassmen are not all to blame. Upperclassmen have been known to have a view that dating someone far younger is morally wrong, and have been seen making fun of other upperclassmen who are dating someone younger than them. Jones met Cunningham while cheering for him on the cheer squad in a football game during the summer. While Jones is a junior and Cunningham is a sophomore, they still manage to have a strong relationship after two months.
Cumpas met Carter at an AHS home football game during her freshman year. Although Cumpas is a sophomore and Carter is a junior, their age difference is two years.
